Revive

The Gospel According to Deuteronomy

“Therefore choose life.”

A desert wind blew raked across their faces as they stood on the plains of Moab. After 40 years of wandering, their destiny lay within sight. Before they could enter the Promised Land, Moses, their tireless leader, delivers a series of sermons to help his people remember the God who had set them free, and recommit to God’s promises before inhabiting the land before them.

In other words, Moses hosts a “revival” service. The sermons he delivers are preserved for us in the book of Deuteronomy. Far from being a history book or collection of dusty old laws, Deuteronomy is full of life and timeless promises. For the people of Israel, this book would be foundational for shaping their national lives as well as their understanding of God.

How might God be calling us to revival today? As we journey through this book, we’ll discover the way that God’s promises are timelessly relevant, and point us to a true and better Moses—a Savior who has set us free from our own captivity, and a Savior that reminds us that God’s promises endure.
